Greetings Appraisers,

The new rules are in effect as of January 4, 2019!  These change the criteria requirements to become a State-Licensed or Certified-Residential Appraiser.

The rules reflect substantial changes to the college education criteria requirements for the State-Licensed and Certified Residential licensure levels. These changes are numerous and you can review a brief listing on the attached Real Estate Appraiser Requirements for Registration/ Licensure/ Certification Form, which is being posted tonight to our website under “Resources and publications”. It also lowered the months, though not the hours, required for State-Licensed experience hours.

Please take time to read through WAC 308-125-040; WAC 308-125-045; and WAC 308-125-070. You can find the adopted changes on our website under “Laws and rules”:  https://www.dol.wa.gov/business/appraisers/applaws.html by clicking on the “Chapter 308-125 WAC: Real estate appraisers (leg.wa.gov)” link.  The processes posted under “How to get your license” for these two licensure levels will be updated in the next few days.     Renewals may still be done on-line, however due to the numerous criteria changes and the age of our system, (which isn’t equipped to accommodate the new multiple options), the on-line new application system will be inaccessible for first time applications.       Trainee Registration Applications and Real Estate Appraiser Certification Applications (apply to take an exam) will need to be mailed to the following address:

Real Estate Appraiser
Department of Licensing
PO Box 3917
Seattle, WA 98124-3917

Skip a trip – go online https://www.dol.wa.gov/business/appraisers/index.html to save time and skip a trip to the post office by managing your appraiser license on-line.  Links are located under “How to renew your license” and the “How to update your license” so you can: ·

Renew your license;·
Update your mailing address, phone number, or email address;·
Order a duplicate license

We have updated other appraiser related webpages also, such as “Information for supervisors”.  Once the new law book is received from the Code Reviser’s office, it will be posted as a PDF on our website in two places:  “Resources and publications” and “Laws and rules.”
