About

The Appraisers’ Coalition of Washington (ACOW) is a Washington non-profit corporation organized by the Washington chapters of the appraisal organizations and consists of Organization Members, Individual Members, and Affiliate Member within Washington State.

The purposes of ACOW are as follows:

  • To educate and communicate with members of the appraisal profession or with any persons concerned with valuation of real or personal property in Washington about legislative and regulatory issues. 
  • To support the maintenance and improvement of The Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and its effective enforcement by the State of Washington.
  • To foster and promote the appraisal profession to the general public through education, research, and publications.
  • To raise the funds necessary to administer the activities of this non-profit Corporation and to use such funds to carry out the purposes and objectives of this non-profit Corporation.
  • To promote the public interest and to foster greater public trust and confidence in professional appraisal practice through non-partisan interaction with legislative bodies, government regulatory agencies and other related organizations.

NAA Board of Governors

ACOW’s membership on the NAA Board of Governors will give ACOW access to a network of appraisal professionals who are committed to provide a voice for appraisers in national and local laws, regulations, rules and lender policy that affects our profession and livelihood.  It also provides ACOW with continuously updated information to assure we are fully informed and current on activities, including changing requirements of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, and other market participants.

ACOW – Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) Statement

The Appraisers’ Coalition of Washington (ACOW) is a Washington State appraiser organization, whose Board of Directors consists of state-credentialed appraisers.  ACOW fosters and promotes the appraisal profession to the public through education, communication, research, and publications as well as non-partisan interaction with legislative bodies, government regulatory agencies, and other professional organizations.  In principle and in practice, ACOW values and pursues participation that is inclusive and diverse.  ACOW promotes involvement and expanded access to leadership opportunities regardless of the actual or perceived race, national origin, or other protected characteristics of any person. ACOW will provide leadership, commit time, provide resources, and raise the funds necessary to accomplish this objective.

As a discipline, DE&I is any policy or practice designed to make people of various backgrounds feel welcome and ensure they have support to perform to the fullest of their abilities in the workplace.  Diversity refers to the presence of differences within a given setting; in the workplace, that may mean differences in race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, and socioeconomic background. Equity is the act of ensuring that processes and programs are impartial, and fair and provide equal possible outcomes for every individual. Inclusion is the practice of making people feel a sense of belonging at work.
